Provo City Half Marathon ( The Recap )
I did it all for the re-cap. Let’s be honest It’s not like I run for fun, fitness, health, sexy legs, (ok maybe the sexy legs) or the friendship. I do it all for the bragging rights. (but not really.) This is simply a race that should not have happened. I hadn’t really ran at all in six weeks. I was not properly trained. Yet this was the first half-marathon I had signed up with and I signed up with my best friend so I felt an obligation to see it through.
Waking up at 5:30 in the morning is not fun! I know big shocker eh? Yet I got out of bed so that I could catch the bus to the starting line. As we arrived I had to use the bathroom and so I proceeded to do that. Just as I walk in all of the sudden my porta-potty is shaking and my friends are yelling that we are going to miss the bus! The poor person after me had a mess everywhere to witness. Don’t scare me like that people! Apparently we were the last ones there and the last ones on a bus. They started loading at 4:30 a.m. We arrived at 6:05. Fashionably late of course. The temperature outside was in the 30’s. Perfect temperature to run in. We arrived at the starting line. A group of 4 of us. We took some pictures and just like that we were off.

The next 13.1 miles were in a lot of ways a fog. I was so paranoid that I couldn’t do well that I was so focused on just surviving. The first time that I saw a mileage marker was at mile 8. I had ran 8 miles with only stopping to walk and drink water or eat the oranges they were passing out. I ran by myself because my best friend was shooting for under 2 hours and the other two friends were slower than I liked. Seeing that 8 mile marker in my head triggered I had ran too far and my body should be tired, so just like that my knee began to ache and my glutes were so sore! Never felt that before. I ran and walked that last 5.1 miles. My knee was bothering me, It wasn’t cardiovascular at all. I had the stamina, but the pain was too great. The last half mile my best friend ran it in with me to the finish!
It was an amazing race! So well planned and such a great course. All the internet should run it with me next year. So beautiful and time went by quick. I ran it 2 hours 34 minutes and 23 seconds. I shaved 12 minutes of my New Orleans Half time. My next half will be under 2 and half hours no questions asked! Gosh I love running. I may not have been able to walk the next two days but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I love how we pretend that we are having the times of our lives when…..

This is actually how we feel.

So thankful for my best friend who ran the final half mile in with me and pushed me!
